CLERK HELD FOR TAKING BRIBE
Jalandhar June 24:
The Vigilance Bureau (VB) claimed to have arrested a clerk of the food and civil supply department while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a woman in lieu of translating her ration card.
Giving details, VB deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Harpreet Singh Benipal said, "Disho, a woman residing at the Chak Jandhu village of Bhogpur block had complained to VB that a clerk at the district food and civil supply office Saurabh Kakkar is demanding Rs 2,000 as bribe to translate her ration card into English." The DSP said, as the husband of Disho was residing abroad and she needed ration card as a proof to go abroad, so the accused demanded money from Santokh Singh, brother-in-law of Disho.
Disho and Santokh Singh handed over the money to accused and VB caught him red-handed along with the bribe. Though, police have lodged an FIR against the accused but as they suspect that other staff members are also involved so they are further investigating the matter.
