New Delhi: As victims of yesterday's bomb blast near the Delhi High Court were brought in for treatment, heart-rending cries of people filled the corridors of the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here.

Though doctors and paramedical staff attended to the victims promptly, the rising numbers created a problem for the hospital authorities.

The numbers kept rising continuously in the initial hours keeping doctors at other government hospitals in the city busy.

Critically injured victims were rushed to the Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital and at least five victims were being treated at the Safdarjung Hospital.

The scene at these hospitals was chaotic as some of the victims were brought in with serious injuries.

In fact, soon after TV channels flashed the news of the blast yesterday morning, people started gathering at the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital looking for relatives.

Security was enhanced at the hospital as additional police personnel were deployed to control the situation at the premises which was slowly getting crowded. Dog squads and bomb disposal squads were also deployed as a precautionary measure.

The blast took place during "rush hour" at the courthouse when the hearings begin.

Within seconds after the blast, lawyers and litigants were seen running for help. Lawyer Sanjeev Beniwal rushed his client Mehtab Singh to the Lohia Hospital.

However, Singh did not survive. "Mehtab Singh was fighting a property-related case at the High Court...His son Rohit and my associate Sachin Powa have also been injured..." Beniwal said.
