According to a survey conducted by People for Cattle in India , a non profit organization 90% of people driving at night fail to overlook any stray animal in between their way resulting in enormous horrible deaths of the helpless beings.

In an effort to bring down the increasing number of stray animals mowed down by vehicles during night hours PFCI, a NGO in Chennai came up with reflective collars for the animals to be worn around their neck comprising of a reflective cloth stuck on a nylon tape which because of its reflecting property reflects back the lights coming from vehicles thereby helping the motorists to spot the animal .

This initiative gathered huge positive response and was further extended in Pune, Bengaluru and Jamshedpur successfully .

Starting with a mere number of 200 the initiative witnessed a team of volunteers working on weekends, who by the way are experienced in animal handling and vaccination ,to fit the stray animals with the reflective collars . The founder of PFCI , Mr, Arun Prasanna filed a RTI application requesting details of the number of stray animals in Chennai and in response to his application he came to learn that the number was approximate to 85,000 for stray dogs.

“We decided to take one more step and use it for cattle as well” informed Mr. prasanna.
