Powercom, which was formed after unbundling of the Punjab State Electricity Board, is all set to bring more reforms in its functioning by implementing various schemes sanctioned by the Centre to curb transmission and distribution loss and to provide better services to the customers.

Under the Accelerated Power Development and Regulated Programmes (APDRP), there are a total of 47 schemes out of which 15 have already been cleared for the Powercom and at least 15 per cent (about Rs 80 crore) has already been transferred out of total sanctioned amount of Rs 272 crore, said A.K. Verma, Director (Distribution) of Powercom, here on Sunday.

Giving details of the schemes, Verma said that 47 towns with the population of more than 30,000 were identified to implement the sanctioned schemes.

In Part B of the implementation of the schemes, concentration would be given on augmentation of transformers and lines, he said, revealing that in the current fiscal, as many as 32 lakh electricity meters would be brought out of premises to curb power theft.

About the new connections, Verma revealed that about 2.5 lakh new general connections, 4,000 industrial connections and 50,000 tube-well connections will be released this year.

Powercom will distribute CFL at Rs 15 against the market price of Rs 100.
