Post Cbi Granted Three Months To Probe 1991 Blast Case

Chandigarh April 5:
Directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to expedite and conclude its investigation in the 1991-bomb blast case aimed to eliminate former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Chandigarh, Sumedh Singh Saini, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted three more months’ time to the CBI.
The High court has also directed the Rajasthan Director General of Police to fully co-operate with the CBI and handover the entire record pertaining to the alleged fake encounter of Navneet Singh, who is claimed to have died in an encounter in Rajasthan. The directions were passed by the High Court today after the CBI complained that the Rajasthan Police was not co-operating with the CBI, in turn causing hindrance in the completion of the investigation.
A Division Bench headed by Justice Mehtab Singh Gill also appreciated the commendable effort of the CBI in the case. The status report submitted by the CBI has been resealed after the High Court perused it. To ensure the safety of the witnesses, the High Court has directed the Registrar (Judicial) to keep the sealed copy of the report in his custody and not to hand it over to anyone including the CBI.
It may be recalled that the High Court had handed over the 1991 bomb blast case to CBI. Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, an accused in the case who was later acquitted by the Court had further alleged that since he was accused of hatching the conspiracy in the 1991 bomb blast, his father and maternal uncle were also abducted during the said period and they have been allegedly eliminated by them
