The so-called truce between former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and present PPCC chief Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, is once again under scanner ever since he has returned to Punjab after camping in the capital for almost a fortnight during the height of his conflict with Bhattal.
A day after Amarinder came under attack from his party colleagues for having missed the party rallies headed by Bhattal, his close aides told party leaders that the Patiala MLA was sick due to an acute cervical pain. He had also been advised complete bed-rest for the next two weeks. By the time this got over, the panchayati raj institutions poll and the Amritsar (south) byelection would be over, except for the panchayat elections scheduled for May 26.
“Now, he will have an official reason to miss these rallies or any other programme planned by the state leadership,” a member of the Bhattal camp pointed out. Rubbishing this, Amarinder's close aide Major(retd) Amardeep Singh said that the Congress leader had been ailing ever since he returned to Patiala from his Nabha visit. Amarinder was not available for comments.
Amarinder's Nabha visit two days back had become controversial because he had chosen to inaugurate a hotel of the estranged brother of Nabha MLA, Randeep Singh, once considered close to Amarinder, who now swears by his allegiance to Bhattal. Randeep had reportedly complained against Amarinder's visit to the state leadership, saying that the former CM had met party dissidents and had not even bothered to inform him about his visit. Amarinder's camp had retaliated by saying that Nabha was duly informed and that there was no meeting with dissident Congressmen.
