Patna: In a case resembling a typical movie plot, a man in Bihar hid his identity and served his elder brother's jail term for weeks to help his family survive but ultimately landed in trouble.

Police said Guddu Verma, an unemployed resident of Naubatpur area in Patna, opted for a prison term in place of his brother Manohar Verma, the lone bread-earner in the family accused of being engaged in a scuffle with a villager.

The accused went into hiding to evade arrest when a case was filed, but this only led to further torture for his family by the police who asked them to hand over the accused.

The police pressure forced the younger brother of the accused to hit upon a novel idea to impersonate his elder brother.

He surrendered before a local court in Danapur, Patna, pretending to be the real accused.

However, the court rejected the bail petition filed in the name of the accused and sent him to jail.

The complainant then filed a petition in the court challenging the identity of the accused.

It was then that the court ordered a probe during which the whole fraud was detected.

This time the younger brother who had enacted the whole drams to bail out his family out of crisis himself became an accused. The court after finding him involved in a fraud ordered a separate case against him.
