BKU founder Mahendra Singh Tikait dies

Bharatiya Kisan Union president Mahendra Singh Tikait, who headed several farmer agitations, died here this morning after prolonged illness.

He was 76. The Jat leader had launched several farmer agitations against the Centre and State governments during the past three decades. He was suffering from bone cancer for the last couple of years and died at the residence of his son Rakesh Tikait, who was leading the Bharatiya Kisan Union in his absence, family sources said.
