The BJP on Sunday morning suspended Bihar lawmaker Tunna Ji Pandey within hours of his arrest for allegedly molesting a girl on train, reports said.
The Siwan member of legislative council was on board the Poorvanchal Express when he allegedly misbehaved with the minor, sleeping on a berth next to his, on Saturday night. The girl was travelling with her father and they were on way to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, reports said.
“BJP has suspended party MLC Tunna Pandey,” senior Bihar party leader Sushil Kumar Modi tweeted.
An FIR has been registered against Pandey who was deboarded and arrested by the government railway police at Hajipur.
The lawmaker had even tried to take the girl to the bathroom, Hajipur GRP chief Sanjay Singh said.
Pandey has denied the charge. “I was just taking out my phone charger, didn’t even know whether it was a girl or a boy who was sleeping,” he said.
Pandey is the second BJP leader to face party action in less than a week. The BJP expelled its Uttar Pradesh vice-president Dayashankar Singh on July 20 after he compared Dalit leader and four-time chief minister Mayawati to a prostitute. Uttar Pradesh is due for polls early 2017.
