Chandigarh November 4:

Welcoming the relaxation in norms for paddy procurement by the Centre, Punjab Leader of Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal expressed gratitude to the Centre stating that the decision came to rescue of beleaguered Punjab farmers.

Bhattal alleged that Punjab Government was in deep slumber and came in action only when farmers were left to suffer for many days in grain markets for want of timely lifting of their produce. "Had the SAD-BJP Government taken steps well in advance by anticipating the situation, farmers would not have suffered due to inept efficiency of Government," she added.

Bhattal demanded from the SAD-BJP Government a bonus of at least Rs 50 per quintal, "If it really felt itself to be well wisher of farming community. During the previous Congress regime, all the crops of farmers were lifted in no time and payment was also made quickly, whereas since the inception of SAD-BJP Government, farmers have been made to suffer in all respects."
