National general secretary of the saffron party Ram Madhav, who was instrumental in the formation of the PDP-BJP government in J&K, today preferred to maintain a guarded silence on the cracks in the coalition over the beef controversy even as BJP national vice-president Avinash Rai Khanna minced no words in attacking the PDP for not following the coalition dharma.
Khanna, who is in charge of the state unit of the BJP, expressed his anger over the unilateral decision of the state government to sack two lawyers after the beef controversy.
“The decision to sack two lawyers is not in good taste because we were not taken into confidence over this controversial step,” Khanna told reporters on the sidelines of a party meeting which was convened to review the performance of the coalition.
The state government on Tuesday ordered disengagement of Additional Advocate General, Jammu, Vishal Sharma and Deputy Advocate General, Jammu, Parimoksh Seth with immediate effect.
Sharma had appeared on behalf of the state when the controversial orders were passed by the High Court on September 9, while Seth had filed the public interest litigation, seeking a ban on bovine slaughter and sale of beef in the state. In a veiled attack on the PDP for taking “controversial decisions”, Khanna said, “In a coalition government, contentious issues should not be touched for the smooth functioning of the coalition. We will thoroughly discuss these issues to devise a strategy to deal with the situation.”
Meanwhile, Ram Madhav, architect of the PDP-BJP government in J&K, preferred to maintain silence on the emerging differences between the two coalition partners on the beef controversy and the Vaishno Devi chopper service tax issue.
“There are no differences between both parties (PDP-BJP) and various contentious matters, including the beef controversy, will be smoothly handled by the coalition government,” he said when his reaction was sought on the simmering discontent between the coalition partners.
“All issues should be solved by local BJP leaders after discussions with their counterparts in PDP. This government was formed on a common minimum programme and we want that it should not deviate from the agreed programme for the smooth functioning of the coalition,” Ram Madhav said.
Madhav, who was here to hold an interaction with senior party leaders, ministers and MLAs, said: “I am here to review the performance of the government”.
On the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council polls, he claimed that there were no differences between the PDP and the BJP and they were fighting the elections on terms suitable to each party.
