Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today inaugurated the 4.50-MGD Bamzoo Water Supply Scheme.
The scheme has been funded under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns.
The water supply scheme will help overcome scarcity of drinking water in Anantnag town and adjoining areas, an official spokesman said.
“With the commissioning of the scheme, water supply in Anantnag town and adjoining areas will now be augmented. Around 1.12 lakh people will have access to safe drinking water,” he said.
The scheme will benefit 52 areas such as Paibugh, Iqbalabad, Kadipora, Laizbal, Anchidora, Nandpors, Batpora, Lidder Mouth, Khanabal, Batangoo, Pushwara, Reshibazar, Achabal, Mehndi Kadal, Donipawa, Mominabad, Dabruna and Ashajipora in south Kashmir.
The Chief Minister had last week commissioned the 10-MGD Sukhnag Water Supply Scheme in Budgam, constructed at a cost of Rs 121 crore.
