Badal Releases CD Against Drug Abuse

On the International Day against Drug Abuse, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal released a documentary CD at Chandigarh, titled ''IDEA - an idea for better life'' on drug abuse in all the three Hindi, Punjabi and English versions produced by DIG, Ludhiana Range Jitendra Jain.

Mr Badal appreciated the efforts of Dr Jain for producing a documentary based on the experiences gathered after launching de-addiction drive and adopting few villagers in Kothe Pipli, Deon, Lehra Mohabbat villages of Malwa belt for free de-addiction treatment to the victims at their doorsteps.

Mr Badal said it was the need of the hour that the drug addicted people must be provided proper treatment as well as vocational training for their rehabilitation and government had taken numerous steps in this direction to curb the menace. Mr Jain apprised the Chief Minister that nearly 100 villages affiliated to these three model villages had already adopted about 5000 beneficiaries.

He said general public could also become part of de-addiction drive by singing an oath on line by visiting Welcome. Dr. Jitendra Jain, a Chartered Accountant and PhD, had earlier also produced a movie in Punjabi on drugs titled ''Zindagi Di Talash- Ek Umeed'' and has written a number of books in English, Hindi and Punjabi.
