In a significant move to strengthen the education infrastructure at the grass root levels in the state, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal today dedicated Mata Jaswant Kaur Memorial Primary School to the people with a view to imparting quality education to the underprivileged children to enable them to compete at par with the students of the public schools.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Mr.Badal said that this school in the memory of his mother Smt. Jaswant Kaur and another upcoming 10+2 senior secondary school at Badal would be named after his father Late Sardar Raghuraj Singh as a tribute to his parent who made an outstanding contribution in his life. He said that today he was delighted to inaugurate this school because it would offer an ideal platform to the children deprived of means of education to excel in their career.
The Chief Minister said that he had a passion for education and the opening of this school was a step towards his missionary zeal to spread education in every nook and corner of the state. He lamented that the children of the affluent section of the society had far more resources than the poor and needy who could not even afford to teach their children in the government schools. He appealed the key players of the corporate sectors to come forward to take up such noble ventures to impart quality education free of cost to the children who had almost no resources at their end.
Mr.Badal pointed out that the building of the school had been planned after detailed deliberations with the eminent architects and educationists from abroad and with in the country. He said that he had personally visited the USA and other places like Delhi and Chandigarh to incorporate the latest features and aspects of the design and architectural in the building of this school to give a serene look and to provide congenial atmosphere to both teacher and taught.
He also mentioned that the selection of the teachers had been made strictly in accordance with the merit by the management of the school run by the Ch.Devi Lal Memorial Trust. He said that all the students admitted to this school would be provided free education including facilities of books, meals, uniforms and even transport. The Chief Minister also stated that the Punjab government was committed to provide quality education in the state through opening Adarsh Schools and up-gradation of 351 government senior secondary schools at a cost of Rs.142 crore.
He said that education was the only factor for the development of human resources and the economic growth of any state or country because it was education solely which could turn the fortunes of poor students and some of them could even adore the highest positions in the society. Earlier, after the Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib and the Ardas ceremony, Mr.Badal alongwith his wife and Chairpersons Hospital Welfare Section Punjab Sardarni Surinder Kaur Badal and his brother and former member parliament Mr.Gurdas Singh Badal dedicated the school to the public.
Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Vice Chancellor of Panjab University Prof.RC Sobti, former Minister Surjit Sigh Rakhra, President SGPC Jathedar Avtar Singh, Mr.Narotam Singh Dhillon who donated land for the school, Principal of the School BS Malik, General Secretary Youth Akali Dal Mr.Tajinder Singh Middukhera and Mr.Avtar Sigh Vanwala besides the senior leaders, party workers of SAD and the principals of the eminent educational institutions.
