Chandigarh October 28:

Conceding the long pending demands of farmers, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal asked the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to immediately simplify the procedure for the transfer of the tubewell connections to the next of kin of the deceased owner.

Assuring this to the delegation of Bharti Kisan Union Ekta (Sidhupur) led by its president Pishora Singh, Badal directed the PSPCL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) KD Chaudhary on telephone to immediately issue detailed guidelines for the transfer of tubewell ownership in case of death on the priority to avoid undue harassment and undue delay caused due to the existing cumbersome process.

He also asked the PSPCL to examine another demand to grant further extension of three months for the enhancement of the load sympathetically. In response to other demands put forth by the delegation, Badal assured them of full support and cooperation on behalf of the State Government and said that their remaining demands would also be considered soon.

Referring to the slow movement of paddy procurement in some parts of the State, he said that he was fully aware of their genuine problem for which he had personally taken up the matter with the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for seeking relaxation in the prescribed specifications of paddy procurement in terms of moisture content and discoloration.

“As a result of these efforts the Union Ministry of Food deputed a special team to visit the Punjab mandis to assess the damage caused to paddy due to inclement weather. State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon has been deputed to vigorously pursue the case of paddy procurement with the Centre as he met Pawar on Wednesday seeking permanent solution to safeguard the interests of our farming community,” he added.
