[WATCH] 3 Dead, Over 9 Lakh People Affected As Flood Situation Worsens in Assam



After a week’s interval, the flood situation in Assam has worsened again claiming three more lives thereby taking the death toll to 18.

Over 9 lakh people are affected in nearly 2000 villages. Dhemaji in Assam is the worst affected area. Rail services have been hit since several bridges were washed away in the spate.

Many prominent rivers in the state are flowing above the danger mark, including the Brahmaputra in the state’s Jorhat and Dibrugarh districts. Other rivers which are flowing above danger mark are Jia Bharali, Dhansari, Puthimari, Beki, Katakhal and the Kushiyara.

Meanwhile the Assam government has stated that they have opened up 214 relief camps in which over 50,000 people have taken shelter. Besides, the chief minister has directed the team of engineers to Dibrugarh to assess the state of affairs in the region.
