Post Asks Suresh Prabhu for help in railway projects

Chief Minister Harish Rawat in a letter to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has sought his help in developing the Harrawala railway station near Dehradun with world class infrastructure. He also demanded speedy implementation of several pending railway projects in the state.
Rawat urged Suresh Prabhu for the formation of a joint venture between the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) and any experienced organisation of the Central government for the construction of a fully-equipped Harrawala railway station with world class infrastructure.
In the letter, the Chief Minister said the Harrawala railway station project should be taken on the PPP mode and it would not be a financial burden on the Railways. The state government was ready to take responsibility of land acquisition and help in developing the Harrawala to Dehradun track as a multi-model transit corridor. He said the work on the Rishikesh to Karnprayag, Tanakpur to Bageshwar, Kashipur to Dhampur and Saharanpur to Vikasnagar railway lines need to be on fast-tracked.
The Chief Minister informed the Railway Minister that the state government had proposed a railway overbridge at Bhandaribagh in Dehradun city and a proposal of Rs 445 crore had been sent to the Railway Ministry through the Uttarakhand PWD.
He said Dehradun serves as a gateway to the Char Dham Yatra and there was lack of buildings and facilities at the Dehradun railway station. The Uttarakhand Government had appointed the MDDA as the nodal agency for developing the Harrawala station as a self-sustainable project. The MDDA had undertaken the exercise with technical experts from the Railways. He said the recommendations for the projects include development of a world class railway station with state-of-the-art facilities, separate stations for freight and passengers, eight platforms at the proposed site against four or five platforms at the present site. The proposed site have the potential for expansion up to 13 platforms and world class residential and commercial facilities for railway staff. Earlier, the Chief Minister spoke with the Railway Minister on the telephone.
