Chandigarh February 27:

The Punjab Government formally constituted an anti- piracy cell headed by I-G (Crime) here at Police Headquarters to ensure proper coordination and multi- pronged action against audio/video piracy, fulfilling a commitment made to the entertainment industry recently.

Disclosing this, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said the police have been given directions to launch State-wide raids against those involved in this illegal trade. Providing details of the cell, Mr. Badal said the I-G (Crime) would be assisted by DIG (Crime) and would be authorised to take assistance from one or more gazetted officers of the Crime Wing as well as field units.

The cell would also have a law officer to provide legal assistance. Representatives of the audio/video industry would also be associated with the cell as non-official members. The police have been directed to file charge sheet within a stipulated time so that the accused are not released on bail.
