A prescription drug overdose is reportedly the reason behind former 2006 American Idol auditioner, and Paula Abdul superfan, Paula Goodspeed's suicide. Goodspeed sang the tune 'Proud Mary' by Tina Turner for Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell on season five of American Idol, but was rejected by all three judges and the singing hopeful didn't make her way to Hollywood through the show. Abdul told Goodspeed that her performance left her "speechless" and "that's not a good thing." Cowell joked that Goodspeed resembled her real life idol, Paula Abdul, and the judge even made remarks about Goodspeed's braces after the audition, saying she had "so much metal in mouth." 30-year-old Goodspeed was found dead in her car near Paula Abdul's California home, alongside Abdul's CDs and photos.
Goodspeed was last seen Monday night and was reported missing by her parents, who were worried their daughter might harm herself. Goodspeed was a fan of Abdul since she was a young girl, and drew numerous pictures of Abdul, which she proudly showed off to the American Idol cameras and host, Ryan Seacrest. A statement from Paula Abdul said: "I am deeply shocked and saddened at what transpired... My heart and prayers go out to her family." Earlier posts on Goodspeed's MySpace page pointed to signs of the entertainment school student's hurt and disappointment from the American Idol rejection, as well as by bloggers jabbing at her appearance.
