Jaipur: The century-old prestigious Mayo College at Ajmer, known as the Eton of India, has allowed a franchise to open a branch in Abu Dhabi.

The governing council of the college has signed a memorandum of understanding with Abu Dhabi's Tamil Association to start the school on the "Mayoor Pattern".

The college would provide all the academic, faculty and administrative support and education technology with an Indian cultural base at the Abu Dhabi school.

"This is a positive initiation and there will be a good result in the future. We are dedicated to building a strong future for the global children," president of the Mayo council Gaj Singh said.

The contract to set up the school was signed with Abdul Jhabar Ali of Abu Dhabi. Gaj Singh said the college first decided to expand in 2003. He said: "This is the first overseas venture." The institute in Abu Dhabi is to open in 2012. Five more such schools have been planned in the Gulf.
