A community panchayat at Bhuna town of Fatehabad has taken a decision banning women from dancing during wedding processions (baraat) in future.
This is one of the several decisions taken by the panchayat of the Agarwal community held yesterday.
Raj Kumar Singla, president of the local Agarwal Sabha, presided over the meeting.
The panchayat decided that stern action would be taken against those violating these decisions.
The panchayat criticised the practice of throwing currency notes in the air at the time of wedding processions and decided that no family would indulge in this practice in future.
Singla said the decisions had been taken as a part of reforms in the community.
“It has become a practice to send boxes of sweets or dry fruits with invitation cards these days. Now, we have decided that the family of brides will distribute such boxes only among close family members ,” he said.
The panchayat also decided that liquor would not be served openly in weddings.
It was also decided that local people would not have lunch or dinner at the bride’s place. The panchayat decided to stop the practice of serving dinner or breakfast during Bhagwati Jagran except when the event is on the birth of a child or for ‘greh pavesh’.
