Affair sours, man throws beautician off balcony for refusing to marry
At a general ward in outer Delhi’s Ambedkar hospital, a 23-year-old woman is admitted with multiple fractures on her arms, face and legs.
A man she met on Facebook two years ago threw her off the balcony on Monday afternoon because she reportedly refused to marry him.
Police arrested him in connection with the case. The incident was reported from Avantika in Rohini at 6 pm Monday.
The woman, a beautician, met Amit on Facebook in 2014, said an investigating officer.
After a few weeks of chatting on the social networking site, the two exchanged phone numbers. They switched to chatting on Whatsapp, said the woman’s brother.
“In 2015, Amit proposed marriage, but she refused. She told us about the proposal. On enquiring about him, we did not hear good things about and found out that he was jobless,” the brother said.
He said she severed all ties with Amit and stopped taking his calls. Amit allegedly refused to accept it and started threatening her over text messages.
The family alleged that Amit had been troubling her for the past three-four months.
On Monday at 2.30 pm, her mother said, Amit called her asking her to meet him at a nearby shopping mall. “My daughter refused, but he blackmailed her and started threatening her. She stopped taking his calls,” the mother said.
At 6 pm, Amit came to their house with his nephew and two sisters, said the mother. The four allegedly asked the woman’s mother to return `1 lakh they allegedly borrowed from Amit.
“Amit, furious over the woman refusing to marry him, caught her by her hand and threw her off the balcony with his sister’s help,” she said.
Amit allegedly tried to flee the house when the woman fell. Residents caught him and handed him over to police.
Police registered a case of attempt to murder against him. They are also verifying Amit’s claims that the woman’s family borrowed money from that.
