The Saudi diplomat, accused of raping and holding hostage two Nepalese women, has vacated his home in the premium residential complex of Gurgaon and moved into the Saudi Arabian embassy.
Another diplomat living on the tenth floor of the same building had moved into the embassy as Gurgaon was no longer being deemed safe for them, said sources.
The development comes a day after the Gurgaon police sent a “detailed” report to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The report elaborated on the investigation carried out so far and highlighted the second medical examination of the two women confirming rape and sodomy.
The Gurgaon police, facing the Saudi Arabian embassy’s allegation of violation of diplomatic immunity of the accused, have put all investigations on hold, awaiting a go ahead from the MEA. However, they have taken the CCTV footage of the building in its custody as an evidence of proceedings of that day.
To deal with the alleged “unwarranted media briefings” by cops in the case, the Haryana Police have barred anybody except the Commissioner to issue statements but that too without divulging any “finer details”. “We have presented our findings before the MEA. We are awaiting instructions from the ministry to carry out the further investigation in the case,” said Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk.
