The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists burnt effigy of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) national vice-president Rahul Gandhi today. They lamented that the Congress leaders were trying to gain political mileage through suicide committed by Dalit student Rohith Vemula in Hyderabad on January 17.
The agitators, led by students’ union president Rakesh Singh Negi, gathered at the College Chowk. They burnt Rahul Gandhi’s effigy and raised slogans against him.
They said the political parties should abstain themselves from making political mileage from the suicide incident. They said the Central Government had taken many beneficiary steps for the welfare of the weaker sections of society.
The protestors also demanded that the state government should take effective steps to overcome the shortage of teachers in government schools and colleges and release funds for improving the dilapidated buildings of government schools in the state.
