As per the Oil Ministry, it is now mandatory to have Aadhaar card for availing LPG subsidy. The government has given two month’s grace period to all the citizens to get a unique identification number.

A unique identification number called Aadhaar is a 12-digit number issued to each resident by the Central Government of India. Currently, the government provides 12 cylinders of 14.2 kgs at subsidised rates per household for a year. The subsidy on every cylinder is directly transferred to the bank account of people. But now, to avail this subsidy, people have to get a unique identification number.

The government has given two months grace for undergoing Aadhaar authentication. The last date of applying for the Aadhaar card is November 30, 2016. The Oil Marketing Companies have been asked to speed up the enrollments so that every individual can be given a unique identification number.

Till 30 November, the subsidy will be transferred based on bank photo passbook and aadhaar enrolment ID slip or voter ID Card or ration card. Once the aadhaar card is provided to people, the consumers have to link their aadhaar number with their bank accounts.

As per the order, It is mandatory for every consumer to have aadhaar card in order to get LPG subsidy except in Assam, Meghalaya, and Jammu & Kashmir. Aadhaar helps the government to bring more efficiency in the delivery of benefits. Aadhaar also helps the recipients to get subsidy directly.

LPG cylinder in India is subsidised. Subsidized LPG is provided largely for domestic use(use in house). Domestic Consumers are entitled to twelve subsidised LPG cylinders. The government will send the cooking-gas subsidy directly to the bank accounts of subscribers as a part of an extension of Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT).
