NEW DELHI: A 9-year-old girl lost her life after she was electrified on Thursday morning. The victim has been identified as Chanda, a resident of Bindapur extension in west Delhi. According to the police, she died around 12.45 pm when she came in touch with a high tension wire running right above her two-storey house. A case of negligence has been registered at the Bindapur police station.

Sources said that Chanda was playing alone on the terrace of her house when she noticed some boys playing in the grounds below. Engrossed in their activities, this class IV student of a local MCD school did not realise that her hand had gone tantalisingly close to the high-tension wires running just above her head. Before her neighbours could warn her, she was electrocuted. She was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhaya Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

The BSES authorities, under whose jurisdiction the area comes, washed off their hands from the incident. "The girl was trying to dry clothes on the live wire leading to her death. When questioned why the wire had come so close to a residential building, BSES officials went on the defensive. "Our lines were led much before this unauthorised colony came up. The owners are to be faulted as they have broken specified laws and constructed their houses close to the high-tension wires," he added.
