Makhu October 25:

Hardik Sharma (7), a student of Class II, was allegedly kidnapped here late last evening and killed within few hours by unknown kidnappers, despite the fact that his parents fulfilled the ransom demand.

As the news of Hardik’s murder spread in the town, fear gripped the residents, who jammed both the road and rail traffic today to lodge their protest against the incident and for pressing the police authorities to arrest the culprits without any delay. Business and other commercial establishments remained closed as a mark of protest against the rising incidents of crime in this town.

Information gathered by media revealed that Hardik, who used to go for private tuitions in the evenings, did not return to his house yesterday. His father, Devinder Sharma, received a call from the kidnappers that his son had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of Rs 4 lakh.

Devinder along with his kin and acquainted persons, went to Sudan bus stand, located on Kot Isse Khan Road as told by the kidnapper around 11 pm. When he went again to take his son from that place, he was shocked to see Hardik’s body lying at the spot. Zira DSP Balwinder Singh Bhikhi said four persons had been rounded up in this connection. He added that a case under Sections 364 and 302 of the IPC had been registered in the police station.

Preliminary examination revealed that Hardik had been strangulated to death. The Hardik’s body was cremated late evening after postmortem examination. Meanwhile, representatives of different political parties, social and business organisations had given ultimatum to the police authorities to arrest the accused by 8 am tomorrow, failing which they would stage dharna in the local police station and would observe complete bundh in town.
