Indian villages along Punjab border came under attack from Pak
ATTARI: Six rockets were fired from Pakistan into Indian territory shortly past Friday midnight. Two rockets fell inside the Border Security Force's Kangarh border outpost (BOP).
Luckily, the rockets did not explode. The BOP is barely half a kilometre from the Indo-Pakistan border. In retaliation, the BSF opened machine gun and mortar fire targeting Pakistan’s KS Wala BOP area, from which the rockets had come. The location of the rest of the rockets fired from the Pakistani side could not be ascertained because of the thick fog that has enveloped these areas.
This is the third rocket attack within six months from Pakistan targeting Indian villages. The earlier rockets were fired into Indian villages in July and September.
Himmat Singh, the BSF's inspector general (frontier), told TOI that six rockets were fired from Pakistan between 12.10am and12.30am. He said the BSF had retaliated strongly and opened machine gun and mortar fire. Following the rocket attacks, the BSF held a meeting with the Pak Rangers commandant, Sher Jhang, and lodged a strong protest, Singh said, adding that no damage or injury was reported.
He said the Pak Rangers had not mentioned any casualty due to firing from the Indian side. He apprehended the hand of Pakistani terrorist groups behind the attack. However, he did not rule out the possibility of the involvement of the Pak Rangers.
Meanwhile, there is panic in the border villages. Manjit Kaur, a resident of Modhae village, said she had heard the blasts around midnight and came out of her house along with other family members. She said: “We thought Pakistan had attacked us as we heard three to four blasts in a short duration. Luckily, it wasn’t a war.” She said the Indian government must take measures to prevent such incidents and restore confidence.

JAMMU: Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an infiltration bid by militants from Pakistan early Saturday following an exchange of fire near Akhnoor along the international border in Jammu and Kashmir.
BSF sources said that a group of militants tried to sneak in from Pakistan across the border in Pargwal Sector, about 45 km north of Jammu, under the cover of fire from the Pakistani side.
The Indian side also retaliated. "They (infiltrators) ran back into Pakistani territory," a BSF source said.
"Militants were taking advantage of the thick fog conditions along the international border," the source added.
This is the second infiltration bid since the beginning of the new year on the international border. On Friday, militants had made an attempt to enter Indian territory in Balakote sector in Mendhar in Poonch district.

BSF foils infiltration attempt along Indo-Pak border
JAMMU: In the fourth infiltration bid in a week, militants triggered a blast to cut into the border fencing but BSF troops foiled their attempt after a fierce gunbattle between the two sides in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district in the wee hours today.
Taking advantage of the dense fog in the area, a group of militants triggered a blast near the border fencing in Alfa Machel border outpost in Akhnoor, 35 km from here, a senior BSF official said
BSF troops of 122 battalion fired at the infiltrating militants and the subsequent gunbattle between the two sides continued for over an hour. The militants then fled back.
As the fence has been cut, a major search operation has been launched in the area to find out whether any militant has managed to sneak in.
This is the fourth infiltration attempt along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) in a week.
The first infiltration bid this year was foiled by BSF at Narianpur Border Out Post in Ramgarh sub-sector of Samba district on January 4.
It was followed by another infiltration bid along Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote area of Poonch district on January 8.
A patrolling party of BSF also foiled another infiltration bid after a brief firefight when militants after cutting the fence had come inside in the forward area of Garkhal in Pargwal belt of Akhnoor tehsil in Jammu district yesterday.
