Panaji: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Goa tourism minister Francisco Pacheco alias Mickky Pacheco has been sentenced to six months in jail for assaulting a government engineer.
The District and Sessions Court at Margao upheld the conviction by a judicial magistrate in the case and refused him bail, following which the MLA was arrested and transferred to the Sada sub jail. Pacheco moved the Bombay High Court challenging the sentencing.
The former Goa minister was convicted by a trial court earlier this year and had appealed in the district and sessions courts.
Pacheco has assaulted electricity department junior engineer Kapil Natekar in 2006 in the latter's office following an argument.
Pacheco has been a controversial character. He has been booked for bigamy, culpable homicide, assault, extortion, money laundering and human trafficking.
