6 KG OPIUM SEIZED, 2 ARRESTED

Amritsar July 10:
The city police have arrested two notorious drug smugglers, believed to have political connections, and recovered 6 kg of opium from them.
Both the arrested drug smugglers — Gian Singh and Jagjot Singh — of Tarn Taran district were intercepted by a police patrol party near the old Sabji Mandi Hall Gate, informed SSP (urban) Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh here.
The SSP said six kilogram of opium was recovered from them. The consignment, smuggled from Rajasthan, was to be delivered to a person in Amritsar. Meanwhile sources in the police department informed both the smugglers have political connections. Both of them have been booked under the NDPS Act at police station A-Division.
Meanwhile, the police has also arrested a robber, Sonu, resident of Uttar Pradesh and recovered a dagger and cash amounting to Rs 40,000 from his possession.
