4 killed in road mishap

Four persons, including three women, were killed when a Swift Dzire car was involved in an accident with a liquid gas tanker, on the Ambala-Zirakpur highway near Gholu Majra village in Lalru, here this morning.
The deceased have been identified as Tara Chand (72), his wife Narain Devi (70), his daughter Rajbala (52) and their neighbour, Deep Shikha (55), while the injured, Garima Sachdeva (23), daughter of Rajbala was driving the car. There were five occupants in the car.
Tara Chand, Narain Devi and Deep Shikha were resident of Sonepat while Garima and Rajabala lived at Pitampura, New Delhi.
The victims had come to Chandigarh to attend a marriage function at Sector 47 and were on their way back home when the incident took place.
The police said the tanker, bearing registration number HR 38N 5912, was going in front of the car (DL8CAW 7211) moving at high speed when it took suddenly took a sharp turn . “As a result, the car rammed into the tanker. All the passengers sustained serious injuries and were shifted to Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, where Tara Chand, Narain Devi, Rajbala and Deep Shikha were declared brought dead”, said the police.
Garima Sachdeva, who sustained serious injuries and was the sole survivor, was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital at Sector 32, Chandigarh.
A relative of the victims said they had begun their journey from Chandigarh at 6 am and the accident occurred at around 7 am, today.
The condition of Garima is said to be critical.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested the tanker driver, Amit Paswan, a resident of Bihar. A case under Sections 279, 337, 304 A and 427 of the IPC have been registered against him at the Lalru police station.
