4-day student science fair in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 4:
More than 250 students from 27 SC/ST model residential schools will converge here on Thursday for a four-day science fair.

It is being organised as part of the ‘Sasthrabodhini’ project, an initiative of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).

Funded by the SC/ST Welfare Department, it aims to promote talented students from socially and economically disadvantaged communities in science and technology.

Currently being implemented in 27 schools, Sasthrabodhini will seek to build scientific temperament among students.

They would be given the opportunity to take up science education projects and interact with field experts and be exposed to science lectures and quiz programmes.

The Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, will inaugurate the fair at the Science and Technology Museum here at 5.00 p.m.

BIG PLATFORM

The fair will provide a big platform for students to present findings of their research studies and also meet with science professionals.

The Minister for Welfare of SC/Backward Classes, Mr A. P. Anil Kumar, and senior officials of the KSCSTE and the government will be present at the function.

“Our objective is to make sure that these children do not miss out on the opportunity of becoming scientists, R&D experts and innovators of tomorrow,” said Prof Rajasekharan Pillai, executive vice-president, KSCSTE.
