3 KILLED, 18 HURT AS BOILER BURSTS IN MANDI GOBINDGARH

Fatehgarh Sahib March 25:
Three labourers were killed while seventeen were seriously injured, as a blast took place in a Mandi Gobindgarh based industrial unit - RP Forging and Alloys on Monday morning.
Two persons Ramesh (30) and Mohamand Hasin succumbed to their injuries at Mandi Gobindgarh. After the blast, the injured were immediately admitted to Civil Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh but due to critical condition of eight, they were referred to DMCH, Ludhiana where one Karamraj succumbed to his injuries.
Now, seven persons are getting treatment at the DMCH and condition of four is stated to be serious. It is suspected that the blast allegedly occurred in a boiler of the unit when the steam pressure had built up in the boiler. The blast ripped off the boiler and its parts hit the labourers standing in proximity.
Fatehgarh Sahib Deputy Commissioner Ashok Singla and SSP Dr Kaustabh Sharma immediately reached on spot. The DC ordered magisterial probe. He said that the report will be submitted to his office within 15 days and stern action if there is negligence on any part. He said that all the injured would be provided treatment free of cost from District Red Cross Society.
The DC, SSP and Civil Surgeon Dr SMS Sidhu also inquired the well being of the injured at the Civil Hospital. The blast was so powerful that the roof of another industrial unit Modern Steel Industry also blown up. The windowpanes and electricity wires were also broken.
Senior police officials had inspected the site. Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Surgeon Dr SMS Sidhu confirmed that eight injured were referred to DMCH, Ludhiana while 10 others are getting proper treatment at Civil Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh.
The police is investigating the exact cause of the blast. As per reports, adequate compensation would also be given to the families of the deceased. As per an injured, he had reported for their duty when steam welled up in the boiler and it exploded.
