FARIDKOT: At a time when many police officials are facing heat of the Moga sex scandal, the Faridkot police on Sunday busted a sex racket involving three policemen, who were blackmailing people by using the services of some prostitutes.

The cops, all constables, were arrested when they were allegedly receiving Rs 1 lakh from two doctors and a pharmacist. With the help of a prostitute, the cops allegedly trapped the doctors and the pharmacist and threatened to implicate
them in a rape case to extract money.

Faridkot SSP Paramraj Singh Umranangal said the cops were involved in these nefarious activities for a long time. Sources revealed that these cops had blackmailed a trader of Kotkapura town and forced him to part with Rs 4.5 lakh with the help of a prostitute some days back.
The accused cops have been identified as constables Major Singh and Laxman Singh of Bathinda police and constable Balwinder Singh of Moga police. They belong to Dhudi, Jhotiwala and Bhisnandi villages of Faridkot.

Revealing their modus operandi, the SSP said two days back when Dr Hargurjit Singh, Dr Amandeep Singh and pharmacist Manoj Kumar, posted at government dispensaries at Kot Karod and Bholuwala, respectively, were going to Moga in a private car a girl and a boy asked for a lift.

The doctors obliged but after covering some distance, the cops who were in another car and were following them ordered them to stop the car. They then questioned the doctors about the girl. They accused the doctors of sexually abusing the girl.

They allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh or threatened to file a rape case. The cops took away the identity cards of the doctors and let them go after the latter made a promise of giving the money on May 17. The boy and the girl also left with the cops. However, on Saturday evening the Faridkot police laid a trap after the doctors approached it and arrested the cops.
