270 SIKHS FROM PAK ARRIVE FOR GURU TA GADDI CELEBRATIONS

Attari October 26:
About 370 devotees crossed from Pakistan into India to take part in the tercentenary celebrations of the consecration of Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal guru of Sikhs.
Five Sikh priests dressed in the traditional attire led the religious procession whose members will take part in Guru Ta Gaddi Diwas being observed at Takht Hazoor Sahib at Nanded in Maharashtra. The group was accorded a warm welcome by the Shriomani Gurdwara Pharbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Punjab minister Gulzar Singh Ranikey as it crossed the border post.
Hundreds of Indian devotees, who had gathered to receive the procession from Pakistan, showered rose petals on guests who were led by acting President of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Pharbandhak Committee (PSGPC) Bishan Singh, while the bands of BSF and Punjab Police played popular music. The Guru Granth Sahib was also brought from Pakistan escorted by the five Sikh priests amid chants of 'Boley So Nihal Sat Sri Akal'.
The Pakistani devotees were taken to Golden Temple by the SGPC in special buses. Bishan Singh said a major three-day religious function was held at Gurdwara Nanakana Sahib, birth place of founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev, in Pakistan as part of the celebrations which was attended by a large number of people.
