LUDHIANA: Reena (name changed) had always suspected that little Anjani's mother, Guddi Devi, had some hand in the separation of her parents. Ever since Reena's mother eloped with her paramour two years back, she had been threatening Guddi with dire consequences.
No one, though, could have imagined the teenager would one day kill two-year-old Anjani to avenge what she called Guddi's "biggest mistake."
The crime, however, didn't go unnoticed for long. The Ludhiana police on Monday arrested Reena after Anjani was found dead, bundled inside a sack and dumped in a municipal dustbin with strangulation marks on her body.
Salem Tabri Police station SHO Beant Kumar Juneja said, "Reena had for long been threatening Guddi Devi and telling her she was to blame for her mother's elopement. The girl used to have frequent squabbles with Guddi Devi and would often tell her that she would be taught a lesson."
The SHO added that on Sunday evening that the girl apparently murdered Anjani after strangulating her.
It was when she tried to be doubly sure about her crime not getting detected was trying to pull the body out of the bin so that she could dump it in some other place that passersby suspected foulplay. Soon Anjani's parents came to the spot and handed Reena over to police.
The police have registered a case under section 302 of the IPC against the accused at the Salem Tabri Police station. "The girl has been taken into custody by the police and the body of the dead child has been sent for post mortem
