Two more deaths due to dengue have been reported from the tricity. Risal Singh (52), a resident of Sector 19, died at the PGI last evening. Another patient from Balongi in Mohali district, Dilesh Kumar, also died of dengue.
A 14-year-old girl from Morni had died due to dengue yesterday at the PGI.
Meanwhile, the number of dengue patients in the city has reached 146 with six new patients reporting at different hospitals during the past 24 hours.
Risal Singh was admitted to the PGI on Sunday. His liver was damaged and the platelet count dipped to 14,000. Dilesh Kumar was admitted to the PGI with high fever after being treated at different hospitals. Today, he suffered a brain haemorrhage and died.
Municipal Commissioner Bhawna Garg held a meeting with councillors and resident welfare associations (RWAs) for the prevention and control of dengue.
It was resolved that RWAs and market associations will organise camps to spread awareness about dengue.
The Municipal Commissioner also directed the officers concerned of the MC to stop water supply to fountains in various parks of the city. Besides, fogging operations would be carried out under the direct supervision of the area councillors.
Mosquito-breedingsite at MC office!
A mosquito-breeding site was found at an under-construction building of the MC in Sector 17. The construction is being carried out to expand the existing MC office. A team of officials of the Health Department was at MC office for a meeting with the Municpal Commissioner regarding prevention of dengue. When they checked water accumulated at the site, mosquito larvae were found there.
Uniform rates for dengue tests fixed
The Health Department (malaria wing) of the UT has fixed uniform rates for dengue tests in all private hospitals and laboratories under the jurisdiction of Chandigarh. The rates are: NSI antigen test: Rs 600, dengue antibody test: Rs 600 and platelet count test: Rs 50. The orders issued by UT Health Secretary Anurag Agarwal have come into force with immediate effect and no laboratory or private hospital can charge more than the amount specified by the department.
