The Special Task Force today arrested two persons on the charges of running a recruitment racket by creating fake websites of renowned semi-government companies. The duo — Sayeed Asif, alias Ashu, a resident of Noida, and Manoj Kumar, a resident of UP— has allegedly duped people of Rs 22 lakh.
SSP (STF) Sadanand Datte, while addressing mediapersons, said ONGC officials had lodged a complaint that some miscreants were running a fake recruitment drive under the name of the ONGC.
The SSP said they formed a team, led by SI RB Chamola, and asked their sources to keep a tab on suspicious persons. They put some cellphone numbers under surveillance and checked their bank details.
The team also went to New Delhi and Noida to trace the accused but they managed to give the police the slip.
He said they were tipped-off about the presence of the accused in the state, following which they arrested them near the Haridwar bypass. Thirteen cellphones, 11 SIM cards, fake rubber stamps and letter heads of semi-government companies, including BHEL and ONGC, a laptop, fake voter ID cards and PAN cards were seized from their possession.
The accused told the police that they had “hired” Star Web Maker Services Private Limited, Noida, for developing fake websites.
The SSP said they had launched a manhunt to arrest Mohit, a resident of Mangalore in Haridwar, who allegedly opened fake banks accounts.
