A 15-year-old school girl, who had gone out with her boyfriend, was gangraped by three men in a secluded place in Tirupur on Wednesday.
The trio were arrested swiftly based on the information provided by the girl and they were remanded to judicial custody on Thursday. The girl, who is yet to recover from the shock, was admitted to a city hospital. Police said she required some counselling.
"The three accused have confessed to the crime," said a police officer in Tirupur. They have been identified as Pandian, 18, Balaji, 18 and Arun Kumar, 20, all hailing from Pichampalayam.
According to police, the Class 9 student, a native of a village near Chinnamanur in Theni district, lived with her grandparents while her parents were in Tirupur, working as labourers in a textile unit. During vacation, she used to visit her parents in Tirupur where she fell in love with an 18-year-old youth. On Wednesday, she had gone to a secluded place with him, police said.
Pandian, Balaji and Arun Kumar, who were consuming alcohol in the area, noticed the couple and confronted them. They assaulted the girl's boyfriend and raped her repeatedly.
The three left her unconscious and fled after threatening her boyfriend with dire consequences if he were to reveal the incident to anyone. Police said the youth left the crime spot after some time but did not inform anyone about what happened out of fear.

As she failed to return home at night, her parents began searching for her in the locality, but in vain. She regained consciousness only in the morning and returned home and narrated the nightmare. Subsequently they lodged a complaint with Anuparpalayam police station and the case was transferred to all-woman police station.
The girl was immediately sent to the government hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed rape. Based on the information given by the girl on the identity of the trio, police zeroed in on the accused within hours and nabbed them.
