It is a probable dengue death case as the report from the PGI stated that the victim had dengue haemorrhagic fever, stated Dr Anil Garg, of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, a day after a 14-year-old boy from Sector 33, Chandigarh, died.
“We sought a report from the PGI, which stated – acute kidney problem, dengue haemorrhagic fever and also platelets count was less. However, the dengue confirmation test was not conducted due to shortage of time,” said Dr Garg.
The Health Department had also found larvae of aedes aegypti (the mosquito that causes dengue) from near the victim’s house and launched an intensive fogging in the area.
With five fresh cases of dengue being reported today, the number of patients down with dengue reached 120 at city hospitals.
By Friday, 100 people were tested positive for dengue in the city.
Meanwhile, three more confirmed cases of dengue and 10 suspected cases reached the General Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula.
Chief Medical Officer Dr VK Bansal said fogging was being carried out in different areas.
In Mohali, 35 persons have tested positive for dengue.
