In a pre-dawn operation, police arrested two drug peddlers and seized 10 kg of heroin allegedly smuggled from Pakistan at Muktsar here, police said.
Acting on specific input that two drug peddlers would hand over a consignment of drugs to another party in Muktsar, a special team was constituted, SSP Dinesh Pratap Singh told reporters.
At around 4 am, a car was spotted. Police gave a chase and two occupants of the car were detained. Later, 10 packets of heroin, each weighing one kg each and worth Rs 50 crore in the international market, were recovered from the vehicle.
The arrested were identified as Mehal Singh of Menewala in Jalalabad and Gurcharan Singh alias Kala of Chak Gheruwala. They confessed to have brought the contraband from Pakistan by crossing the Cobra fencing near Hussainiwala border. Charges were framed against them under the NDPS Act.
