Royal paintings of Jodhpur
Paintings depicting courtly life that once hung in the palaces of maharajas are on loan to Britain. The 54 large format works are specific to the Jodhpur region and not found elsewhere in Rajasthan.
The first part of the exhibition, held at the British Museum between May 28 and August 23, contains paintings of Indian epics created for Bakhat Singh (1725-1751).
The second collection, commissioned by Maharaja Man Singh, (1803-1843), illustrates metaphysical concepts of the Nath yogis religious sect.
