Dedicated CWG traffic lanes spell doom

Delhi commuters were in the midst of a manic Monday after the lane reservation for Commonwealth Games came into effect from 8am to 8pm. At 1 pm, there were reports of traffic jam from the Yamuna Bridge to ITO on the other side of Games Village.



Jams were also reported from the IP metro station towards IP Park on the ring road and on NH 24 near CWG Village to Nizamuddin Bridge.

Jams could also be seen at the DND flyway, Dhaula Kuan-Sardar Patel Marg, Dhaula Kuan-South Campus-Ring Road, Moti Bagh and Maharani Bagh.



Earlier in the day, Delhiites had a harrowing time reaching their destinations as police enforced restrictions on exclusive lanes for Commonwealth Games.



It was bumper-to-bumper traffic on the road leading from Games Village in east Delhi's Akshardham to various practice venues from morning and many people were seen stuck in their vehicles.



The uncomfortable weather added to the woes of the motorists. The NH-24 connecting Delhi with Uttar Pradesh was jam packed.



A large number of traffic personnel were fanned out across the city to facilitate Commonwealth Games related traffic as athletes are scheduled to visit practice venues spread across the city.



"I started from Noida at 8:30 am and reached Connaught Place two hours later. The traffic through DND flyover was a horrifying experience," said S Chandrabhanu, a media professional.

Anyone deliberately straying into the lanes while they are operational will attract a fine of Rs. 2,000. Yesterday, Delhi Police challaned 17 people for deliberately entering Games lanes.

why so much fuss about dedicated lane, every city provides dedicated lanes to players in tournaments?
Traffic Jam is not so uncommon in Delhi. Some joints in delhi always get jammed during peak hours. But it will be good if they allow the use dedicated lanes to a vehicle (not buses) shared by 3 or more persons.

P.S-> Figure of 3 came to my mind coz 1 guy is usually the hired driver.

I even don't understand why media is creating so much fuss about games now. Surprisingly the same media will rain applauds and good words once games are on.
Maybe they are just waiting/trying to get their share of (bribe, corruption) CWG pie.
