Swedish rider wins top prize at Oman festival

UNP ImageMuscat: Jona Jostavsen of Sweden, riding Scari, won the 1,600 metres race for Pure Arabian Horses in the annual Royal Horse Race Festival at Al Adiyat horse race track in Seeb on Monday evening.

Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed attended the races and gave prizes to the winners. The festival also included shows performed by the Royal Cavalry horse riders.

In the opening Al Wusta Governorate for Arabian pure breeds (1,100m), the Royal Cavalry's Al Muatassim Bin Saeed Al Baloushi riding Al Saif came first.

In the South Al Batinah Governorate for pure Arabian horses for the cup of the International Federation, Jostavsen beat Jessica Marsalis of Italy riding Al Waseef and Bert Wiper of Germany on Tamgeed.

The North Al Sharqiyah for thoroughbreds (1,600m) was won by Hamed Bin Darwish Al Baloushi riding Rise View.

The fourth race, the Al Buraimi Governorate for pure Arabian horses (1,600m), was won by the Royal Cavalry's Asa'ad Bin Ali Al Siyabi on Rasheeqah.

Mahir Bin Juma Al Baloushi, riding Al Izar/MHF, won the Al Dhahirah Governorate for pure Arabian horses, while the race for pure Arabian horses for Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed's Cup for female riders went to Ramlah Bint Khalil Al Zadjali riding ‘War'e'.
