Sunil Narine could miss Kolkata's IPL opener

Sunil Narine, the West Indian spinner, could be unavailable for Kolkata Knight Riders' first fixture of Indian Premier League 2016 against the Delhi Daredevils at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday (April 10) as he rushed back home due to the demise of his father.

" Unfortunately, Sunil's lost a family member. His dad has passed away. So he has gone back. We are certainly not putting any pressure on him to comeback. It's something I have been through and know how tough a time it is. So we are not putting him under any pressure. When he feels right to play cricket, he will come," Jacques Kallis, the head coach of the team, said on Thursday (April 7).

The 27-year-old spinner had been reported for a suspect bowling action during West Indies' tour of Sri Lanka in late 2015 and was later suspended when individual assessments revealed that all his deliveries were illegal. Narine remodelled his action but pulled out of the recently-concluded World T20, stating "insufficient progress in the rehabilitative work on his bowling action."

Even as he is set to miss Kolkata's tournament opener, he could soon return to bowl with a new action. Kallis acknowledged the work that Narine put in and hopes his new action gets a positive response from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

"He has done a lot of work. We havent got official verdict from the ICC yet but hopefully it will come back positive. Im pretty sure of it," Kallis said.
