Dubai: Fanatics provided a brilliant start to the Emerging League at The Sevens, smashing 274 for three from their 20 overs in the opening game.
XI On Top were on the receiving end of some dominant batting as the Dubai Cricket Council-organised tournament got under way.
After winning the toss, Fanatics opener Krishna Chandran bludgeoned 145 from 67 balls with five sixes and 14 fours. Chandran got good support from partner Ajit Somsekhar, who hit 84 runs off 38 deliveries, as the openers put on 200 runs in 15 overs for the first wicket.
Needing nearly 14 an over, XI On Top got off to a good start with Vijesh Babu (33) and Mahesh Shetty (22), but the rest of their batsmen could not keep up with a demanding rate.
Though Rajesh Kottakalathil top scored with 43 runs, Chandran sparkled with the ball to take two wickets, backed by Somsekhar with a three- wicket spell, as XI On Top were bowled out for 150 in 16.5 overs.
Meanwhile, in the Inter District Cricket League being held at Zabeel Park, Kozhikode Kats extended their unbeaten run with a seven-wicket win over Idukki Indians.
Idukki were restricted to 130 in the allotted 20 overs, with Kozhikode reaching the target in the 15th over. Shehzad of Kozhikode won the man of the match for his quick 53.
