Will BBB bypass NO PROBLEM?

Comedy entertainers with a huge cast are generally considered to be quite safe at the ticket window. And why not? After all it has been a tradition over all these years to see biggies with a promise of laugh-a-minute always managing to make an impression at least over the opening weekend. Still, NO PROBLEM hasn’t lived up to the expectations.
Ok, so NO PROBLEM wasn’t meant to take a flying start a la GOLMAAL 3 due to absence of any superstar actor in it. Also, the promos were not consistently good from start to finish, hence bringing in some doubts in the mind of cine-goers. Still, one did expect a good enough foot falls at the least to first entice word of mouth and then grow or fall depending upon what is being said.
However, the film’s non-performance at theaters has been quite shocking. Yes, ‘No Problem’ would have good moolah coming it’s way from satellite and home video rights but theatrically, it just hasn’t made this mark. For director Anees Bazmee, it would be his first box office disappointment in a long time after a hat trick of successes in the form of NO ENTRY, WELCOME and SINGH IS KINNG. Still, he won’t be much worried as he has THANK YOU and READY releasing in first half of 2011.
On the other hand a much smaller film, BAND BAAJA BAARAAT, has seen massive appreciation from ‘aam junta’ as well as critics. The film has won praise for itself due to its fresh treatment while the actors have been singled out for their terrific performance. Anushka has come up with her best act ever while newcomer Ranveer Singh is a revelation and clearly the debutant of the year.
Of course this Yash Raj film too didn’t have much to write home about on the basis of the opening that it has taken. Still, the silver lining is that not a single soul has anything negative to say about this fun entertainer that has seen views ranging from ‘good’ to ‘fantastic’. This clearly means that in days to come, one can well see this small film ensuring much better footfalls.
