In a potential return to the show’s UK roots, British comic actress Catherine Tate is reportedly a strong contender to fill Steve Carell’s chair on NBC’s hit TV show The Office.
Thursday’s season finale will feature guest stars Jim Carrey, Ray Romano and Will Ferrell, but Tate is said to be high on the producers’ wish list and, er, it’s doubtful any of the other guests would be interested.
James Spader and Will Arnett, both of whom will appear in the season finale, have also been rumored contenders for the manager’s office, but Arnett has since committed to a new series entitled Up All Night, leaving Spader in contention with Tate, and one more familiar face; Ricky Gervais, the show's co-creator as well as the star of the UK version, has been added to the (potential) mix.
