In 1998 when Westlife started making headlines Brian McFadden changed the spelling of his named to Bryan claiming it was easier to sign autographs. He was always going to be the colourful one.

The Irish singer-songwriter continued a rise to fame with the band in the '90s but in 2004 he left the band to "spend more time with his family and work on solo projects".

Ironic then, that in the same year he separated from his wife, Kerry Katona and their two daughters Molly and Lilly-Sue.

Following his departure, McFadden released his debut solo album, Irish Son, which peaked in the top five in both Denmark and Ireland. He did well with four No 1 singles since, including Almost There with Australian popstar Delta Goodrem, who he then started dating.

In 2007 McFadden and Goodrem announced their engagement but just two weeks ago the engagement had been called off, with both sides saying "we were just drifting apart".

McFadden appeared as a guest judge on Australian Idol and last year became one of the new judges on Australia's Got Talent alongside Kyle Sandilands and Dannii Minogue.
