For alleged ‘derogatory’ remarks

A bailable warrant of Rs. 10,000 has been issued against Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in a case related to his alleged derogatory comments against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

The court issued the warrant after Dutt failed to appear in the case that centres on the allegedly derogatory remarks made by Dutt during an election rally for the Lok Sabha polls last year.

Then the general secretary of Samajwadi Party, Dutt had in a public speech offered to give BSP’s Mayawati, “jadoo ki jhappi” (a magical hug) and a “pappi” (kiss) on two different occasions.

After Dutt’s comment, an FIR was lodged against him by the then district magistrate and a chargesheet was filed by police. Now, the warrant has been issued because Dutt hasn’t been appearing in the case.

The court has reportedly fixed January 15 as the next date of hearing.
